Tom studied classical guitar in Spain in the seventies, founded Santa Fe Spruce company, supplying tone woods to luthiers across North America, and spent the decades that followed building concert instruments by hand. In 2001 he founded Pavan — because serious players kept asking him what to buy when they couldn’t afford his concert guitars.

That’s why we tailor each setup to your needs—we can go as low or as high as you like. If you’re unsure, we recommend a balanced setup of about 3.6mm on the low E and 2.8mm on the high E.
We can include extra saddles to give you the flexibility to adjust higher or lower later on!

The Design
Why these guitars sound the way they do
Tom spent decades building concert guitars by hand, refining what worked. He arrived at something specific: a slightly larger body than the period classical guitar, a graduated top, six fan braces and a treble bar. The TP-30 is that design. His own conclusions, for his own instrument.
The TP-30 is the ceiling of the Pavan line. There is no $5,000 model above it, because a $5,000 Pavan wouldn't sound better. If you want something better than a TP-30, you need a guitar built by a great luthier at a great luthier's price. Tom will tell you that himself.

I spent a solid year looking for a new classical guitar. Custom luthier jobs were out of reach, but everything in the stores left me underwhelmed. Internet advice led me to Pavan, and I am thoroughly satisfied. Quality tonewoods and craftsmanship yield tone and playability that I could not otherwise find at this price point. Amazing how my Pavan TP-30 broke in. It started out pretty tight, now it is as good as or better than any spruce guitar that I have compared it to, regardless of price. It has what I call continuance of timber, if it was a warm stroke, the timber continues warm, not all guitars, regardless of price, have that quality.

The TP-30 guitar arrived, safely, today. It is just what I was looking for, but was unable to find in Calgary. It has a lovely, bright tone - typical of the Spanish made guitars - and is a pleasure to play.
