Pavan TP-30-AC Cedar

$1,995.00

Numerous jazz players and studio musicians frequently contact me looking for a great-sounding nylon cutaway classical guitar that would record well when mic’d or with added electronics. For years I only offered the TP-20 as a cutaway model (TP-20 AC). I have had so many special orders for TP-30 cutaway models that I decided to carry them as a standard model.  They are the same as the TP-30 models but with a cutaway and a  50mm nut width.

Features of the Pavan TP-30

PAVAN TP-30-AC Cedar -Lachrimae by John Dowland preformed by Stephen Brew

The Pavan TP-30 AC has a cedar top, solid East Indian Rosewood sides and back, ebony fretboard, reinforced neck, 50mm nut width, bone nut and saddle, and a 650mm string scale.

Cedar soundboards are known for their warm sound. Cedar also brings out high-frequency overtones and partials which lends itself to a shimmering brightness, almost like a little bit of built-in reverb. Guitarists play both spruce and cedar, it is really a personal preference as to which you may prefer. Please listen to the videos/sound samples.

The soundboards of the Pavan TP-30 AC are built in a custom shop where experienced guitar makers specialize in handcrafting each soundboard. The soundboard is left thicker in the bridge area of the lower bout and gradually gets thinner towards the sides. The bracing pattern uses a treble bar and 6-fan braces. This design gives a firm, clear, balanced tone with excellent responsiveness and beautiful tonal variation. This guitar is what I was striving for when starting Pavan Guitars. I wanted to offer an exceptional recital-quality guitar at an honest and accessible price for guitar players who were searching for an alternative to my more expensive concert hand-built guitars.

When classical guitar players come to my shop to try out the Spanish guitars they are very impressed with the Pavan TP-20 model guitars but they end up purchasing the Pavan TP-30 guitar. The slight difference in sound makes a big difference to the experienced player.

Presently I do not offer classical guitars priced higher than the Pavan TP-30 models.

If I were to offer a higher-priced model they would sound no better than the TP-30.  Only a guitar built by an excellent experienced luthier might sound better. I should know I am a Luthier and an accomplished classical guitarist.
